Larry,
I am running machines in a Point of Sale environment and to ensure freedom from the inherent problems of SERVER downtime I run the system as follows:
All machines - single user Arev systems
Operating Systems - Win 98 on Point of Sale terminals
Win 98 or NT 4 Workstation on the Main machine
In all cases (Win 98) Read caching OFF; Write caching OFF
The system is relatively simple in that the POS terminals collect data during working hours, the main system retrieves the data after working hours and updates the relevant historical files. No Writing occurs unless it is written by the Arev system installed on the particular machine. In my view it should be NO WRITES = NO GFE's.
The only interaction between any of the machines is that the main server will occasionally use a READO to check the current transaction values on the POS terminals.
So simple it's frustrating to have, what appear to be, illogical errors occurring during processing which should have no effect on the actual file structure.
Any info on my Sizelock question.
Regards Ray
